Kids Separated from Parents!
Over 250 kids have been separated from their parents!
If I said that it was done by President Trump and the US Border patrol, it would be headline news around the U.S. and the media would have a field day. Good people all over would demand an explanation. Tens of millions of dollars would be raised to help the poor, suffering families. We would read about the terrible trauma that the kids are enduring and how it will affect them for the rest of their lives.
This is EXACTLY what happened when 1000 Mexican children were separated from their parents by the U.S. Border Patrol. I know of one Facebook page that raised $18 million in a few days to help. All of that demonstrated the good hearts of the American people.
So let me tell you about the kids that I am talking about. The Ahava Village for Youth and Children houses over 250 kids in Israel who have been separated from their parents for various reason. Some of the parents are serious drug or alcohol addicts, some are sexually or physically abusive and others are psychologically abusive.
These children deserve no less sympathy and help than the Mexican children separated from their parents at the U.S border.
The children who were stopped at the border mostly came from intact families who were looking to better their futures. They experienced a trauma that will no doubt affect them but ultimately, they went back to their families one way or another perhaps even with an improved standard of living.
There should be as much outrage that the children in Ahava are separated from their parents. The outrage obviously will not demand that they be returned to their families but it will be directed to ensure that the children receive all that they need and that the funding necessary is available.
The trauma that the Ahava children have faced is intense and life altering. Without intervention, it leaves them with virtually no chance to lead a “normal” life. Ahava gives them a second chance at life. Ahava steps in where there is, for all intents and purpose, no parents. They love the children, they teach the children and model healthy family life.
The suffering of children touches a deep chord in all of us. The Ahava children most of the time do not go back to an intact family, the Ahava children suffered a life altering trauma, the Ahava children need your sympathy, outrage and support as much as the Mexican children separated from their families.
It is a race against time. Every day that passes is an opportunity to stem the flow of tragic circumstances that the Ahava children face. It is a chance to save the life of child. It is a chance to help Israel.
